I was really keen to try Philip Johnson's latest restaurant in Brisbane, for a long awaited brunch . One Eleven Bistro is the product of award-winning chef and restauranteur, Philip Johnson of E'cco Bistro fame and has some delicious gluten free options available as well as great coffee.
The restaurant is perched on the Mezzanine level of 111 Eagle Street and almost floats over the busy business area. The vibe inside is chic, spacious and minimalist, with well-dressed businessmen and businesswomen a plenty.
After being escorted to our table with a view over Eagle Street, we delve into the menu. The brunch menu is fairly extensive and after ringing ahead, I am told that most of it can be made gluten free! I opt for an all time fav of mine - the buttermilk pancakes with blueberries, walnuts and caramelised bananas, as well as my signature skinny latte. The coffee is truly delicious - but I'm greedy and would have appreciated a larger mug! The pancakes are very thick and fluffy and taste great. They're not shaped particularly well, which I found strange given that this restaurant is at the high-end and given its reputation - but they're delicious nonetheless. The caramelised banana was the definite winner of the dish and the serving size was just right.
The staff were prompt and attentive, but not intrusive. They were immaculately dressed and very knowledgeable about the menu.
The breakfast menu ranges in price from $5 to $19, which I think is really good value for money given the restaurant is marked $$$$! The dinner and lunch menu are much more expensive that the breakfast menu though, so beware!
Immaculately clean to match the immaculately dressed wait staff.
