Brisbane High Tea, Stamford Plaza Lobby, Cnr Margaret & Edward St, Brisbane, Ph: 0732211999

Date of Review: 10 November 2012

Anyone for gluten-free high tea? It's Saturday afternoon and I'm off to a Hen's afternoon high tea party at the Stamford Plaza - one of Brisbane's premiere establishments. Elegant decor, a perfectly set table and string quartet awaits us.

Atmosphere: 5/5

I am nervous that my choice of high tea food maybe limited - but I need not have worried. The gluten-free selection I am specifically given rivals the non-gluten-free selection. The hens are gazing at my gluten-free antipasto plate in awe - some even start pecking at my plate. It is delicious and filling - plus noone else has this, making it all the more appetising.

This is followed by gluten-free club sandwiches - cucumber and cream cheese, chicken and ham, plus the bread tasted like the real deal.

Next is an assortment of gluten-free cakes, slices and mousses. This is really too much for one person - but I indulge anyway, along with sips of bottomless rose petal tea and lattes. The cakes are delicious, the only complaint would be that the macaroons taste a bit stale.

Food: 19/20

The staff are charming and attentive, although I don't catch the names of all the slices I'm given, as this explanation is hurried through.

Staff: 6/10

At $45 a head ($55 if a glass of champagne is included) for essentially an all-you-can eat and drink (of the caffeinated variety) within a set timeframe, this is pretty good value for money.

Value: 8/10

As a fine dining establishment, the place was spotless.

Cleanliness: 5/5

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50 or 86%
