Ole Restaurant, Shop B12, Little Stanley Street, South Brisbane, QLD 4101, Ph: 0738461201

Date of Review: 1 September 2012

Being a beautiful Saturday morning and after hearing rave reviews about Ole, I decided to head there myself. Although the breakfast menu finishes at 11am, there were plenty of other delicious dishes to tempt me. Ole has a distinctively Mediterranean feel about it - from the music of a guitar in the background to the warm and inviting decor.

Atmosphere: 5/5

After letting the waitress know I was gluten-free, a whole separate dietary requirements menu was provided. Every dish on the menu was listed, along with categories defining it as vego/vegan/gluten-free/lactose-free. The list offered wine advice and notes as to how large the servings were. Perfect! I started with a traditional sangria followed by sombrasada y vieras - soft cured pork and paprika sausage, Queensland scallops and pork crackling at $17. Unfortunately, there was no pork crackling, but I was still given an additional scallop instead, which suited me fine! The presentation was beautiful and the taste of the scallops with sausage -devine! It was listed in the more substantial meal section, but it was definitely more tapas-style than substantial. To compensate, I ordered a tapas afterwards. I chose the tortilla espanole - potato tortilla (think gratin), roasted capsicum with tomato and rocket ($11.50). This was arguably more substantial, but equally, if not more so, delicious.

Food: 19/20

The staff were very attentive and friendly, as well as being extremely knowledgeable about the menu.

Staff: 10/10

The food was priced on the higher end of the scale. Despite this, I was very confident it was indeed gluten-free and it was so delicious, I didn't mind too much paying a bit more.

Value: 7/10

Exceptionally clean - although like most of the other Grey Street restaurants - there are no bathroom facilities.

Cleanliness: 4/5

TOTAL SCORE: 45/50 or 90%
