The Survey Co., Burnett Lane, Brisbane 4000, Ph: 07 30128725Date of Review: 25 July 2012
This restaurant is a hidden gem, nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city mall in Burnett Lane. Although difficult to find due to its unassuming entrance which blends into the rest of the Lane; once inside, this place exudes pure sophistication and class. The rawness of the brickwork mixed with the leather hide details creates an almost New York loft style ambiance and they accept bookings!
We decided on the $18 light lunch option as we had limited time. Although not overtly marked on the menu, after asking there were a number of gluten-free options to be had. Eventually I decided on the minute pepper steak with frites and ordered a garden salad as a side dish ($9). The steak arrived promptly and was flame cooked to perfection right in front of my eyes as the kitchen is situated in the middle of the restaurant. The steak was accompanied by a mouth-watering jus that flowed onto the hand-cut potato frites. It was sensational. Unfortunately, my side salad was forgotten, but many apologies later, was quickly brought out. The salad was crisp and dressed in a light olive oil.
From being greeted at the door to being waited on by attentative and helpful staff, the service was generally outstanding.
At $18 for a light lunch, including a tender steak, you can't go wrong. Plus this place is open 6 days a week!
The restaurant was immaculate but the ultimate test is the bathroom - which was spotless. Also love it that they have l'Occitane flowing soap!
