Pony Dining, Upper Level 18/45 Eagle St Pier, QLD 4000, Ph: 0731813400Date of Review: 22 January 2013
Already well-established in Sydney, Pony Dining has finally come to Brisbane! With an award-winning chef and to-die-for decor, this restaurant will not disappoint! As soon as we walked through the front door, we were impressed.
Pony is the perfect place for a date night, with its plush surroundings, minimalist decor and swanky bar. But be sure to make a reservation and explain any dietary requirements ahead of time, as this place is popular. We were seated inside overlooking the Brisbane river and well out of the way of any impending rain.
The menu is divided into a number of sections, with small plates to share, kitchen offerings, main meals from the wood-fire grill, plus a dessert and cheese menu. Unfortunately, the menu doesn't differentiate between those dishes that are gluten free, dairy free, vegan etc and those that are not.
After consulting with the waitress, I opted for the Moreton Bay Bugs, wrapped in proscuitto and grilled, accompanied by white beans and fennel for my main; and my hubby opted for the Angus Sirloin with roasted baby carrots and eschallots, cress, and salsa verde (also made gluten free). Both were delicious. The moreton bay bugs with proscuitto was a winning combination and the range of flavours was amazing.
For dessert we shared a vanilla cheesecake, which was presented a bit differently to what I was expecting. There was no biscuit base (making it gluten free) and to be honest it was too rich for me without the base to break up the cream-cheese.
The staff were friendly and attentive. I had asked for the menu to be emailed to me earlier and had gone through all gluten free options with the staff over the phone. I was very impressed!
The dishes here are on the pricey side - making this place perfect when asked to go on a romantic dinner out! The mains ranged from $26/$28 to $42 with desserts from $9 to $15 each.
The cafe was relatively clean and the bathroom is a must-see!
TOTAL SCORE: 46/50 or 92%
